Try New Things, People!

Alright. This is a rant. I mean in no ways to offend anyone. If you think I am insulting you, you are sadly mistaken. Often times, I am angry at a certain action being performed by groups of people, not people themselves. For that reason, I will never give any names. That being said...

Try New Things, People!

Alright, my anger started when SSBB [Super Smash Brothers Brawl] was released. I thought the "4 Ways to Play!" was somewhat silly. While, I understood it was convenient to people who didn't have all the controllers, I just assumed that if you had them all, you'd probably stick with Wii Remote and Nunchuck. The majority disagrees.

On another site, I made a poll. Which controller do YOU use? Well, here are the results:

Wii remote on side: 2
Wii remote + Nunchuck: 4
SNES Controller: 2
Gamecube Controller: 12

All I have to say is "..." The GC controller is more than the others combined! Why is this?

Well, when I started it. I immediately went with Wii remote + Nunchuck. The reason is obvious: I wanted to have the experience of a new SSB. I didn't want to be playing SSBM 2.0. I wanted SSBB. So I'll play in a new way! I decided that the other two could be weakend due to oversimplification, so I went with Wii remote + Nunchuck.

I asked a certain person (no names will be given, remember?) which they used. They said GC. I asked why and imagine my surprise when they said that they hadn't even TRIED Wii remote + Nunchuck. Don't knock it until you've tried it. I didn't think I'd like celery, but I did! Who knows what you will come across!

I experience the same problem with Mario Kart Wii. Although I have only heard limited feedback, I got the reaction I expected to get. "I use the gamecube controller. No duh! The Wii Wheel is just weird/hard to use/awkward." Alright, I'll admit that in my first few races, I was struggling like crazy: "Wait! No! Go left! GRAH!" "Yay! I win! WAIT! NO! WHY DID I HAVE TO DROP THE WHEEL ON ITS SIDE WHEN I WAS CERTAIN I WON! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" And the like. But once I got the hang of it, it was a cinch. It is really quite easy to use.

So once again: Why do people just resort to the GC controller? One of the challenges of a new game is it being... well... a new game! I don't want Melee 2.0. I don't want Double Dash 2.0. Remember what the Wii was originally going to be called? The REVOLUTION! Not the Gamecube 2.0! Why was it to be called the revolution? It was to be a brand new thing! And by golly, it IS a brand new thing! It has its own controllers, it has its own style of games, it has its own graphics, it has its own games, it has its own way to play, and it even interacts! It is a new system and deserves to be treated as such. So try that new controller. Sure, it can be awkward at first, but just keep trying. If after you are used to it, you still prefer gamecube, then all the power to you. But as they say, don't knock it until you've tried it.
